This was our first week in Early, Texas working at the Aldersgate Enrichment Center Camp. It is a camp for the physically and mentally challenged clients. They have about 25 on site residents and another 40 that come for the day to work. The center has contracts to clean roadsides, and parks in 11 counties. They also do contract work for 3M, Kohler and other companies in the area.
We had our first team meeting on Saturday night. The team consists of Steve, Tracy & Robert, Dennis & Nancy, and Francis & Doyle. It may be a small team but is very talented with the talents needed for this large project
We are working at the Aldersgate Enrichment Center in Early, Texas.
This is the entrance to the camp
Sunday after church we went to Underwood's for lunch. we were told that this is a place not to miss for restaurants in central Texas.
Our work for the three weeks we are here is to turn this large 75 x 80 warehouse room into a dining area, & community center with video capabilities and dance hall for the residents.
Robert, Steve, & Tracy worked to build new walls to separate the room from the maintenance area.
Robert, Tracy, & Dennis prepared the scaffolding basket for use during the project on the front of a forklift. Much of the work is going to be off the floor up to 20 feet.
Dennis cut old pipes in the ceiling area that used to be for air nailers when the
area was being used to build pallets.
New walls were lifted into place with a forklift & secured.
Francis & Doyle installed new wiring for the the electric lights, fans and HVAC units. We are very fortunate to have this new NOMADS who is a master electrician on the team. They were able to get all of the wiring done in the first week so that the ceiling can be closed in this next week.
We attended a pancake dinner sponsored by the local Kiwanis club on Tuesday night. The Camp had purchased tickets so that we could attend this event.
Nancy ran wiring & installed the new boxes on the new walls.
Francis & Doyle wired boxes in the ceiling for the new fans.
Dennis pulled wires across the beams in the ceiling for the electric lights
By the end of the week we had almost all the electric wires pulled and the insulation completed.
On Thursday night we had dinner at La Bontania. A local Mexican restruant.
The campground for the NOMADS is full hookups with 30 amp. It is on the edge of the cow pasture and has tons of stickers growing wild everywhere.
