Andalusia Alabama Blue Lake Camp Oct 15 - 21, 2016

This was our first week at Blue Lake Camp in Andulusia, Alabama.  Even though the weather has been in the 90's with a high heat index everyday we were able to accomplish a lot.

This is the entry sign for Blue Lake.  It is a big camp that is located in the National Forest in southern Alabama near the Florida border.

Blue Lake consists of  3 areas.  Oakwood which is where the camping area is & has the main lodge rooms, Dogwood which is cabins, & Pinewood that also has cabins.

The camping area is on the southwest side of the lake with 6 full hookup sites.

After church on Sunday we went to Larry's BBQ.

Sunday evening we had our team meeting after everyone arrived with ice cream snacks.

Our main project is the Lambuth Chapel.  It was originally built in the 1800's & moved to Blue Lake in the 1980's. We have been tasked with repairs for rotten wood, repairs to interior drywall, painting both the inside and outside.

The chapel does not have water or electricity so we have a very long extension chord that we run the power tools with.

Faith & Jim worked on repairing the walls inside.  Some areas were never taped & there were lots of places that needed to be repaired.

Mike worked at fixing the doors.  The bottom edges were damaged & one of the two main doors didn't swing correctly.

Geary worked on getting the siding ready for painting by scraping.

Nancy worked on replacing nails in the handicapped ramp & scraping & sanding the ramp.

Dennis repaired the window glass & reglazed some windows.

Ruthie was kept busy on cleaning up, scraping, mudding, sanding the walls & calking the ceiling  inside the church.

Bill cut & replaced some of the worn out wooden siding on the outside of the church and built a cover over the back door.

Geary spent lots of time on both extension ladders putting in nails, scraping & calking the church.

Kathy spent the week scraping & calking outside the church. The prep work has taken many hours this week.

Bill & Mike started the task of building a shade shelter for the archery course.

By Thursday we were all ready to enjoy a meal at Dave's Catfish.
