This was our first week working at Christ United Methodist Church in Neptune Beach, Florida. We have been tasked with painting the fellowship hall, kitchen, attached rooms and hallways.
We attended church on Sunday at Faith United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, which is where we have our RV's parked at, it is about 15 miles from the work site.
After church we went to the beach to watch the Blue Angels with Bob & Shirley. There was a ship out in the ocean dredging sand to rebuild the beach and dune along the shore after the hurricane damaged the area this fall.
They pump the sand into the beach where they are in the process of rebuilding the area to help keep the ocean from reaching the houses.
The Blue Angels show was great!
Sunday night we had our first team meeting and were told about the work the church wanted us to accomplish.
Christ United Methodist Church is located about 1/2 hour drive away from where we are camped because of the traffic on the roads.
We met with Mike from the church and a few other members of the church for a tour to look over the project on Monday morning.
One of the jobs is to paint the choir room, the cabinets and change out the light fixtures.
Another job is to remodel the storage closet.
The fellowship hall is one of the big projects. Bill started off by taping the doorways in the fellowship hall.
The four hallways were also on our list. Bob cut in paint in the hallways.
Jim cleaned, scraped and caulked the windows in the fellowship hall.
Don cut in the side walls of the fellowship hall.
Bobbi rolled the straight walls of the fellowship hall.
Dennis painted the higher area of the walls & trim board over the kitchen serving window in the fellowship hall as he was the only person who felt comfortable at that height.
Shirley worked on preparing & painting the choir room.
A church member & Bill worked on framing and blocking in the exterior wall for the new air conditioners in the kitchen.
Dennis added a plywood ceiling, painted, added trim and replaced the light in the storage closet.
Nancy painted walls, doors & trim in the hallway.
Ogie painted the vents for the fellowship hall after painting in the choir room.
By Friday we had made the hall usable for a memorial service that is being held this weekend.
