ECHO - N Fort Myers Florida January 14 - 20 2018 week 2

This was our second week at ECHO. Lots of work was accomplished. The weather turned extremely cold with temperatures in the low 30's & freezing on Thursday.

We attended church at Carlson Memorial Church in LaBelle, Florida.

The church had a beautiful quilted banner depicting the many ministries it does.

After church we went to Amigos & Beer.  It is a Mexican restraunt. The food was good & serving portions were big.

Sue & Susan put the final coats of paint on the benches in the outdoor classroom.

Mike & Gary took the decking off the bridge, checked the support boards, and prepped it for the decking.

Dennis installed lots of new light fixtures in the shop.  He had a different helper each day with several of the ladies learning how to put light fixtures together.

Sally helped in the kitchen all week with a different helper each day. The ECHO person in charge of the kitchen was out sick all week so our help was greatly appreciated. Sue & Sally prepared salads for the TAD class group that was at ECHO.

The addition to the AT building continued.

We started to paint two of the houses. Susan & Jane painted over the brown trim at the peaks of one of the houses. Nancy rolled the house. We were able to complete the first coat on the first house.

Betsy was able to try out a new recipe for muffins using items from the farm when she worked in the kitchen.

The bridge decking & new rail was completed.

Mike & Chuck broke up the old cement on the sidewalk & hauled it away. There was only one section that was broken & needed to be replaced. Chuck said he was able to use the Jackhammer and that it was one of the items on his bucket list to do!

The Volunteer Lunch was held on Wednesday. They served sandwiches, chips, & beans along with  salads made from items from the farm.  They had two cakes. This one said "Happy Helpers" on it.

Thursday was Chuck & Sally's 54 Wedding Anniversary.  They brought in donuts for the team.

Thursday morning found our temperatures below freezing. When we arrived at ECHO we were greeted by sprinklers on the farm.  They were going off full force everywhere in hopes of coating the plants with ice to keep them from freezing.

The ice on the plants turned them into a beautiful "winter wonderland!"

The AT building supports were put in place.  Extra help was needed to install some of the large boards.

Chuck & Mike worked on replacing the drinking fountain. When in place it will have a place to refill water bottles.

We ended our week going out to dinner Thursday night at Forrey's Grill in LaBelle. On Friday several members of the team attended the RV show in Tampa and then Friday night we had a campfire. Saturday we shared a chili & hot dog dinner followed by the movie "WWJD The Woodcarver".
