This was our first week at Camp Sumatanga, near Gallant, Alabama.
The welcome to Camp sign.
They gave us a list of possible jobs that they would like done.
We attended church at Lester Memorial UMC in Oneonta. We went to the traditional service.
After church we went to Ken's B-B-Q. The food was very good.
For our team meeting we had a picnic dinner.
We are holding devotions in McBee Pavillion which is right next to the camping area.
Cheri put wood putty on the seams & screw heads of the 3 lifeguard stands.
Phyllis sanded the wood putty when it was dry.
There was a lot of painting to do when the sanding was done.
After the painting was finished we started measuring & cutting to build the last lifeguard stand.
The second major project that was worked on was fixing the walking path between the Pool camp cabins & the Lodge dining hall. The steps for the path were cut into the large stones in the hill. This was not a very safe walkway for visitors.
Leonard hauled several dump truck loads of gravel into the area by the path.
The dirt was moved by the track skid loader as we built up the path going down the hill. Both Dennis and Leonard got to play with this toy!
Butch leveled & helped to guide the loads of gravel into a new pathway.
The new pathway has 2 sloping steps & a ramp area. The director said we built a road down the hill to the creek. The great thing is they can now do maintenance easily to the path. We worked on several areas to move water away from washing the path away.
One of the camp maintanace men helped Dennis with the final cuts for the lifeguard stand.
Butch & Leonard put the last pieces together for the 4th lifeguard stand.
Building a carpet ball game was the next project that we started on.
After the braces were put in place, Leonard & Butch started building the legs.
Phyllis & Cheri painted the 4th lifeguard stand.
Dennis planned & cut out the floor for the carpet ball game. We hope to get the rest of the supplies for this project next week. Building a carpet ball game was a new experience for these NOMADS. Although we have a small team we are moving along in the work the camp wants done.

Looking forward to seeing what this week brings.
