Ripley, Mississippi week 2, Apr 5 - Apr 11, 2014

First Monday Trade Days Fleamarket was going on Saturday and Sunday. The show was quite something as there was everything for sale here and a very large crowd attended on Saturday.

There were tons of people and lots of items and animals and fruit and vegetables for sale. Several booths were selling trees and shrubs that went very well.

On Saturday we went to Shiloh National Historic Site.  On the way we had lunch at Borroum's Drug Store.  They are the oldest drug store in Mississippi.

They were extremely busy and we had to wait in line to get a seat.  The six of us sat at a four person booth.  The hamburgers were very good and the milk shakes were excellent!  It's a very popular place to eat.

Our first stop after lunch was the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center.

Along the entry sidewalk were 3-D battlefield symbols buried part way into the cement.

Our next stop was Shiloh National Military Park visitor Center.

We drove to the famous church used in several movies and was the
headquarters for both armies during the battle.

Monday was back to work.  Meredith painted primer on the newly mudded walls upstairs in the church we were renovationg.

Tony, one of the local church members painted the ceilings.

Bill worked covering the wall behind the water heater.

Dennis cut and installed dry wall for the kitchen area, stairwell, storage room area.

Buford a local church member worked with Bill on installing the plumbing for the entire building. At times they had to get in the crawl space under the building in the mud to install the new lines. The city came and verified the sewer line was open and usable.

They also installed plumbing for the downstairs bathrooms. Holes had to be cut into the floors to install the plumbing.

Bill worked on installing plywood over the cut away area to the sewer lines in the future kitchen.

Willie a local church member helped screw drywall into the stairway landing he loved to use Dennis' drywall screw gun. this was the first time he had ever  installed drywall. By Wednesday we had him measuring and cutting pieces also.

Bill held a discussion with Beverly and Buford of what we were planning on doing in the Kitchen area.

Kathy and Nancy worked at dry walling to new bathroom upstairs.

We were treated to a potluck dinner by the local church members on Tuesday night.  We had soups, rolls, sandwiches, and deserts.

Dennis built a scaffold over the stairway.  2 by 6's were secured to the studs in the wall and then 2 by 6's were fastened into them across the stairwell with 3/4 inch plywood fastened on top for the platform.    It was nicknamed "The Penthouse."

Tony mudded the stairwell area and then primed the stairway from the scaffold. He told us several time he was closer to heaven working here.

Kathy primed and the wainscoting and chair rail in the upstairs hallway.

On Thursday night we were treated to dinner at Catfish Haven near Tupelo.  It was a buffet style meal with all sorts of food, and several types of catfish which was great!

We worked on Friday this week so we can depart on Thursday as we are all heading home from here and want to be in our homes for Easter.  By the end of the day we had all the wainscoting and chair rail painted upstairs in the classrooms and hallway. The rooms upstairs are almost complete at this point. We still need to trim the rooms out and install the doors.
