We traveled from Hawthorne, Florida a trip of 640 miles last weekend to start our last project before we head home. This was our first week in Ripley, MS, where we are working on converting a church building that had been closed up in 1979 and they are now trying to make into a community center.
We parked at the First Monday Flea-market Grounds, where we have full hookups for our units.
Our first day of work. The team consists of Bill and Kathy, Bill and Meredith, and us.
Dennis works on inspecting a window frame in the sanctuary while a member of the church and both Bill assist him. Our first job is to make sure the frames are repaired for the re-installation of the windows.
Kathy and Meredith started the week by trying to clean up the old sanctuary.
Bill works on rebuilding the window sills which were rotted out.
The church we are working on is The St. Paul Methodist Church started in 1870.
This is how the church currently looks on the outside.
The old stainglass windows have been removed for repair.
Kathy works on mudding the drywall upstairs of one of the future classrooms.
Bill applies calking to the new window frames.
Kathy learned to use a new tool to cut out the drywall of the bathroom window upstairs.
Nancy helped cutout the windows of the bathroom upstairs also.
Dennis installed drywall over the staircase to the upstairs.
The rooms upstairs were mudded and sanded and ready to paint.
Meredith rolled the base primer coat in the first room upstairs.
We went out to dinner on Thursday night at a Shirley's a local restaurant.
We explored the First Monday Flea-market Grounds on Thursday We found they have a bridge made out of two buses over top of a stream. The Flea Market is being held this weekend, The team is planning on going to breakfast on Saturday morning at the Flea Market and then finding the early bargains.
On Friday we went to visit the Local Museum. It was filled with lots of history of the area as well as a collection of 500 salt and pepper shaker sets.
