Boys Ranch, Gore, Oklahoma Week 1

We arrived at The United Methodist Boys Ranch Circle of Care on Saturday October 12 in the rain.  It is located in Gore, OK in a beautiful area with a reservoir across the road. The team consists of 6 NOMAD RV units that had all arrived by late afternoon.

The Boys Ranch was decorated for fall and the rodeo with scarecrows, mums, and corn stalks. The RV parking area had the NOMAD sign at the entrance.

Our team leaders were Gary and Sharon.  Sunday evening we held our first meeting
to discuss the upcoming workweek which included the list of jobs to be
completed before the Rodeo on October 18. This was a 6 day work week for the NOMADS to prepare and work the Rodeo.

One of the many jobs was working in the kitchen.  Donna taught Elizabeth and Nancy how to make pie crust for the cobblers which were served at the end of the rodeo with ice cream.

Sharon worked on touch up paint on the walls in the office.

Steve and Everett repaired the screen doors on the office entrance and the smoker area.

Sharon, Gary, and Art worked on small jobs in the office area. Gary and Art worked for 2 1/2 days to install a water fountain in the office entry room without any leaks!

Muffins, breads, cookies and more cookies were baked by Elizabeth and Nancy for the NOMADS to sell at the rodeo on Saturday.

Nancy decorated cupcakes for one of the meals served to the volunteers helping with the rodeo.

Erv picked pears from the trees at the Boys Ranch. We used the pears for
some of the food and the cobblers.

Jo and Sharon fixed chairs and set up for the meals served to the
volunteers helping at the Boys Ranch.

Art and Gary replaced the light bulbs and cleaned the light covers in the crossing building.

Ramon and Dennis worked at remodeling a storage cabinet to hold cups,
napkins and plates in the crossing.

Gary, Ramon, and Larry cleaned up a light cover that had fallen.

Steve and Everett basted the Beef Briskets for the Bar B Que Beef sandwiches.

Jo and Sharon cleaned the surrey with the fringe on top.

The stage was set up by Gary, Everett, and Dennis.

Auction baskets poured in!  There were around 100 baskets, quilts and misc.
items for the silent auction.

A small western town was set up to add to the rodeo.

Gary and Steve had to play with the bouncy house after they set it up.

Ramon and Art added rope lights to the cross.

Elizabeth and Dennis worked at cooking breakfast on the morning of the rodeo.

Everett and Elizabeth won several baskets at the silent auction.
I think they needed a few more!

There was a basket of tools sent to the auction from the First UMC, Moore, OK.
It was complete with a NOMADS sticker.

Nancy and Sharon sold cookies, muffins, and bread at the NOMADS booth.
There were over 130 packages sold.

Everett and Jo participated in the street dancing on Saturday afternoon.

Art, and Ramon served as the timers for the rodeo while Sharon and Jo recorded scores.

Steve helped by being the flag man in the ring for the timers when the kids crossed the
line to begin or end their run during the rodeo.

We are not working on Monday because we worked 6 days this week.
