Mount Eagle final Week and Fort Smith

After watching over the camp on October 4 & 5 we started our last week at Mount Eagle. We had been told about repairing the sign at the entrance to the camp so on Monday Morning we took the sign down.
Gerald the maintenance man and Dennis used the tractor forks to remove the sign from the posts.

We took the sign up to the shop area to begin the repairs. Dennis took the frame off of the sign that was rotted out.

The bottom of the sign was separated and had to be sanded to get it ready to be glued back together.

We also had to go back to the entrance to replace a post for the sign that was rotted off at the ground. We dug a hole and installed a new 4 x 4 post.

On Tuesday we finished preparing the sign and glued it back together.

We used the ratchet straps to put the sign back together and hold it for the rest of the repairs,

Nancy cleaned up the sign after the repairs were done.

John and Dennis used the tractor on Wednesday to put the sign back on the posts.

The sign turned out very well when they got it back up.
They plan to have the Arkansas NOMADS paints the sign when they come in.

On Thursday morning we left and traveled to Fort Smith Arkansas.
We stayed at the Park Ridge Campground.

Nancy decided that we needed to visit Miss Laura's Social Club. Which is just up the street from the  Fort Smith  Historic site. It was the high class bordello in frontier days in the town.

We visited the National Historic site which is the former fort for the territory. It is also the site of the former federal court house for "Hanging" Judge Roy Bean.

The outer area of the old fort is marked with an entrance on each side and a cement walk all the way around.

This is the former court house building and now the visitor center for the park.

Nancy was sitting at the judge's former desk and pronounced the sentence.

Outside was the walk area for the site of the first fort and the trail if tears overlook as this was the start of the Indian territory.

We also visited the Fort Smith Museum of History with displays of the early days in this town.

We were only a few miles from the state line on Saturday as we traveled to our next project.

A little after noon we arrive at the Circle of Care Boys Ranch for our next project.
