Tucson First UMC Jan 4 to 10th

We started our 3 weeks in Tucson for the First United Methodist Church.

Our team picture.  Dennis, Steve, Carol, Paul,Shirley, Nancy, Bob, Jerry & seated is Jenny with her two dogs.

After church on Sunday we went to Golden Corral for lunch.

Sunday evening we had our team meeting at the church we are camped at.  We went over the list of work & decided where we would start.

Our first job was to clear out the social hall.  We had several items to move so we could began work on the floor.

Carol cleaned the registers behind the stage extensions in the social hall.

Jerry tackled the steps to the basement. The steps were slanted on one end & had little support over all.

The social hall floor needed to be cleaned & scrubbed so a coat of polyurethane could be put on it.

Mary Jewell & Bob worked on removing the old speakers in the church sanctuary.

Shirley cleaned, sanded, stained, & polyurethane the steps from the stage.

Paul & Bob worked on removing bricks and fixing the water drain in the courtyard & putting the bricks back in.

Nancy & Shirley started painting all the outside rails white.  The white rails will keep cooler in the hot Arizona sun.

The church wanted the entry way to be painted an accent color.  Carol helped paint the green,

We went to Tumacacori National Historic Park.  It is about 45 miles from Tucson.

The park is an old mission.  The remains are preserved & has an interesting history.

We also went to Red Hills Visitor center which is the west part of Saguaro National Park.

The huge sagauro cactus were everywhere.  They can weigh up to many tons and are very tall, they can live as long as 200 years.
