Pensacola Florida DR Nov 15 - 21

This was our second week in Pensacola Florida.  Even though we had a severe weather rainy day we were able to complete lots of work this week.

On Sunday we went to church on Pensacola Beach at Flounders Restaurant. The church was called "Worship at the Water" by the Gulf Breeze UMC.

Our whole team posed inside the huge clam shell at the beach front even though it was a little bit chilly.

We then ate lunch at Peg Leg Pete's. The seafood is great at this restaurant on the beachfront.

On Monday Nancy & Donna went to another home to finish putting grout on the tile floors of the kitchen, entryway, & bathrooms. Last weeks team had finished putting down the tiles.

Dennis & Joe carried a new bathtub into the house we have been working on since last week. The trick for them was to fit a 60 inch tub into a 59 inch area. A little carpenter magic and it went in.

Dennis replaced a kitchen faucet that was broken.

Donna & Nancy put on the final coat of drywall & primed the walls in the bathrooms & painted the final coats on the walls & ceilings.

Joe installed the tub surrounds in both bathrooms.

Joe & Tony reinstalled the door to the hall bathroom with only one mistake!  It didn't quite fit. They had it upside down. This was the real sign we were getting tired for the week.

Thursday night we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner, it was chosen by Tony as it was his last day at this project.

On Friday Dennis & I decided to go across the 3 mile long bridge to visit the two National Park locations.

We saw the famous Pensacola Beach neon sign on our way.

Our first stop was Naval Live Oaks.

We learned how the oak trees were used to build boats during the early times of our country and this area was first declared a tree farm before it was turned into a park for preservation of the trees.

While walking around the park are we saw this Heron on one of the dead trees.

Because of the heavy rain storms & severe weather we had at the beginning of the week, Fort Pickens was closed on Friday. So we drove back out on Saturday to go to Fort Pickens after we heard on the news it was reopening.

The road was still covered with sand in places which reminded us of all the white snow we used to get up north in Michigan. They have used a loader tractor to move the sand out of the road.

We took a tour of the fort.  The front right corner of the fort is missing from an explosion of 8000 pounds if gun powder in that area. It blew bricks clear across the bay at the time.

Some cannons were still on top where they could defend the fort from attack along the coast.

At the museum there was a picture from hurricane Irene that showed how the fort area was effected as it took a direct hit.

The museum had several interactive displays.  This one showed how the enviornment effects the turtles.

When we headed to our truck, one last bird came to say goodbye.
