Moss Point Mississippi March 12 - 19

We had a three week break from working.  We rested at the Life Enrichment Center for a week, spent a few days at Crystal River, spent a few days in Mobile, Alabama sight seeing, & spent a few days in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi visiting NOMADS who live in the area. This was our first week in at the Caswell Springs UMC in Moss Point, Mississippi.

The sign at the entrance to the church where we are parking. This is also the church that NOMADS parked at during the years of the Katrina rebuild.

The area had been hit with lots of rain & flooding.  It delayed our arrival by a day.  We arrived on Saturday after the rain had settled down into the ground some. We also had another severe thunderstorm on Thursday and Friday evenings this week depositing another 6 inches of water.

The church we are parked at has a very active congregation of people of all ages.

Our team for the first week consisted of Rob & Helen who stayed over for a few days to help us. Dee who is the project coordinator.  Phil who stayed over for an extra week.  Suzanne joined us for the three weeks. Dennis & Nancy who are leading this project.

Sunday night we held a team meeting at the church.  As with many NOMADS projects we had ice cream for a treat during the meeting.  We are working on a building that is being turned into a three bedroom home for a family that lost their home to Katrina and then had several other set backs. Dee and Jack are the coordinators for the Community of Hope project supported by the local churches.

Rob began working on sanding the mud from drywalling.

Dee put drywall mud around an old wooden corner post in a bedroom.

Phil worked on getting the main door to close better.

Dennis & Phil took measurements for installing a window in one of the bedrooms.

Rob cut an opening for moving a window in the living room/dining room area.

Helen applied the first coat of mud on walls in the bedroom.

Jack picked up a broom to clean up around the newly cut window.

Suzanne put mud around the window trimming it out.

Dennis & Phil used the lift to put the drywall up on the ceiling.

Phil & Dennis planned out shelving for the bathroom.

Nancy applied the final coats of mud to the walls.

The home owner's sons helped Dennis put up the drywall on the ceiling in the kitchen area.

Thursday night we went  to Bozo's Seafood Market & Deli.  They sell all sorts of fresh seafood & have lots to choose from on their menu.

This sign tells how Caswell Springs UMC got it's name.

We followed the path down as far as we could go towards the spring.  There has been so much rain around here that rivers are still way above flood stage & are to continue to rise thru early this week.
