For the next 3 weeks we are working at Blue Lake Camp in Andalusia, Alabama.
Blue Lake Camp is surrounded by a national forest.
Our main job for this project is to help build the new program director's house.
When we arrived on Thursday the cement was poured & some of the electric & water lines were ran in the cement pad.
All the rafters & walls were prebuilt so we had a puzzle to put together.
Dennis & Nancy helped the camp staff & volunteers from the town put up walls on Friday & Saturday.
The walls were all numbered & laid out as to where they should go.
We worked from one side of the house putting up the outside walls then adding the inside walls as we went.
There a few adjustments to be made.
The walls needed to be attached to the cement & each other
After the walls were in place the boards were added for a porch
The first trusses were put up one on each side of the house.
On Sunday all but one couple were here. After church we went out to Larry's BBQ.
On Monday Steve from the camp joined us to tell everyone about the camp & what work we would be doing.
Chris built the rolling scaffolding
Carl spent most of the time on the roof. He centered and anchored the trusses.
Renae & Bev put nails in the supports to be used on the trusses
Mac cut boards for the trusses
Bill helped put up hurricane straps.
Supports for two of the trusses had to be measured & hand cut to fit.
June helped put the tyvek on and cut the windows in.
While the house was being worked on we were asked to split the team & paint 4 classrooms in one of the buildings. Chris, Bev, Renae, & Nancy cut in the walls with primer.
The house group worked on enclosing the ends of the trusses.
They also put up fascia
Renae & Bev were great painters. They painted one whole room in no time.
Chris found a few places that needed a little caulk.
The roofing decking boards were started.
June taped the insulation board with Dow tape.
By the end of the day on Thursday, we had painted 2 and 1/2 classrooms & had primer done on the fourth room.
The roof boards were up on the house.
On Friday Dennis worked with the camp staff & community people to put on the roofing paper. The forecast is for rain on Sunday & Monday so it was a job that needed to be done before the rain. By the end of the day the house was dryed in with the help of a couple of tarps.
