Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center (OWL) April 15 - 20, 2017

This was our last week at the OWL center in Dubach, Louisiana.  The weather was warm and we were able to complete several items on the work list. This is our last project for the winter and on Friday morning we will start back to Michigan for the summer.

Wade & Betsy had a small fire pit so we had a bonfire once we figured out how to put it together right.  The directions were hidden inside the fire ring.

On Easter we went to Grace United Methodist Church in Ruston.

It is a small church where we were given a warm welcome. We also found out they are big supporters of the Disaster Response in the conference.

After church we went to Ryan's Buffet.  There was tons of food to choose from.

On Easter morning we woke up to finding owl plant pokes with little bags of Easter candy by our RVs.  The Owl Easter Bunny had come to visit the NOMADS!!

We helped set up meeting tables for the Children's Home Board meeting this week.

We put together table decorations for the dining tables.

We set the dining tables.

Wade helped mow the fields before the board meeting.

The rafters were put on the walk way by the bunkhouse.

We worked on getting the rooms at the lodge by the conference center cleaned after a wedding over the weekend.

One more  pet was found at the Owl Center.  He was checking out the goats.

Betsy & Wade had us blow bubbles as part of their bubble parable devotion.

We were taken on a tour of the Children's Home.  This was the barber and beauty shop area of the  vo-tech building.

There was also a large shop that had both welding and woodwork.  In the welding area fire pits were being built. in the woodwork area a playhouse was being made to be auctioned off as well as a doghouse.

We also got a tour of the school.

One area they are very proud of is their library.

The covered roof was finished on the walkway.

We made two batches of jelly.

Anne gave Betsy pointers on how to use the label machine for the jelly.

The boathouse was finished being painted.

The back of the boathouse was repaired by replacing the wood siding.

Wes, one of the staff treated us to a crawfish boil. Wade had to check out the crawfish.

Nancy wasn't quite sure about the crawfish.

Betsy & Nancy played bean bag toss while waiting for dinner.  Each won one game.

There was too much food as usual! This is just Dennis' plate.

Everyone enjoyed all the food!  Wes, did a great job of cooking!

We made one final batch of salsa. Betsy put on the labels.

Our last two days were spent making two batches of jelly and one batch of salsa.

For the last day Carl & Hal helped Dennis pick up 3 loads of broken limbs around the campus.
