This was our second week at Lakeshore Camp. We accomplished several items on the list of work. The weather has been both hot & muggy & cool & rainy. We have had lots of rain which makes the road to the campground a bumpy mess.
Several of us have ventured to Nathan Bedford Forest State Park. It is just up the road from the camp.
There is a monument that tells the story of the park first established as a CCC camp.
They have the Tennessee River Folklife Museum in the state park.
The exhibits cover how fishing was done on the river.
There are several live snakes on display.
and a few turtles native to the area.
There are displays of mussels harvested from the area.
Buttons were punched out from the shells & used in clothing & made into jewelry.
There is a historic monument by the river marking the battle site from the civil war
Our first job for the week was to repaint the lodge dining hall. It was to go from pink to tan by Tuesday evening. Pat cut in as Elaine rolled some of the walls.
Dennis cut in the high places between the two areas of the room.
Jack continued working on getting the last few pieces of the bathroom done
Nancy painted the area under the drinking fountain. She claimed she was not just taking a nap.
Jack put some polyurethane on the redone bathrooms.
Dean worked at getting the outlet covers back in place.
The dining room finished quickly.
Dennis worked on getting the final rails of the fence in.
The fence was finished. Now it has to wait for the wood to dry so it can be stained in the coming months.
Ron put a coat of polyurethane on the bathroom walls.
Barb did one more check on the painting of the dining room. There was just small touch ups that needed to be done.
Pat & Barb started staining the bridge of the outdoor classroom.
Connie & Dean power washed the deck of the yurt.
We also stained the "music" area deck of the outdoor classroom.
Barb & Jack did a devotion on tools.
Jack, Barb, & Ron checked out the loose rails on the deck of the yurt & tightened them.
Connie & Dean power washed the cabin porches.
Barb started staining the yurt deck rails.
Ron painted the outside of the bath house in the camping area.
Our camping area is on a gravel road which has gotten lots of rain on it during the week.
Dennis swept & helped stain the yurt decking.
Thursday night we all had more than we could eat for dinner.
We went to the Country & Western Steak House.
A few of us ventured up to the wilderness part of the camp. It is a steep, rocky, slanted path where you cross several small bridges or jump across the small stream..
On Friday night we had a campfire. It was a bit cold but at least the rain held off.
