The Hawthorne Project is a Community Out Reach project.
We work on homes of people in the community repairing them,
this is the 26th NOMADS team that they have hosted.
This is where we are camped. The area is called "The NOMADS WOODS".
It is full hooks ups located behind the Methodist Church in Hawthorne.
Three of the units stayed over from the previous period to help out.
This is the Methodist Church we attend each Sunday while staying here.
This is the Education Center where we have our meetings.
This building was built by several different NOMADS teams.
Dave and Patty celebrated their wedding anniversary during our first week here.
We had an anniversary cake and ice cream with all the toppings.
NOMADS can never have too much ice cream!!
On Sunday we had our team meeting and
gave the members of the team a list of work projects.
Dennis power washed a handicapped ramp outside
an elderly lady's home to prep it for painting.
Patty and Cheri painted a porch in another home.
Dennis and Jack gave Cleo pointers on how to cut pieces needed
to build the replacement roof supports for a storage shed for a home owner .
Jack carefully placed wood clamps to hold the roof supports in place.
Dennis and Jack screwed in the supports.
Cleo and Sandy put calking around a newly replaced window in a home.
Bill worked on installing the wiring for an outdoor light on the porch.
Dennis worked on installing the outdoor motion detector light for a home owner.
Nancy power washed the ramp outside the thrift store ran by the church women.
Joyce power washed the sidewalks around the thrift store.
Sandy painted the power washed ramp at a home.
Patty enjoyed the donuts that were donated to the church.
Nancy and Joyce trimmed all the plants around
the thrift store and cleaned up the brush.
Bill spent time sorting and cleaning the maintenance area of the church.
Butch, Cheri, Patty and Dave put a porch on a home.
We were given a tour of the Hawthorne Historical Museum
and Culture Center on Wednesday after work.
On Thursday morning several of the gals worked at the thrift store
putting out more donations. Joyce measured drapes to be marked and put on hangers.
Cleo and Sandy tore off a roof of a storage shed of a home owner for replacement.
They had lots of brush to remove from the shed.
Pete and Jack marked plywood for installing a new kitchen floor for a home owner.
Friday night several of us played a game of dominoes.
It lasted for four hours and the women's team beat the men.
On Saturday we went with Jack and Cleo to St. Augustine
and toured the fort and the old town.
The bricks of the fort were made of sand and stucco.
The stucco was made of ground sea shells.
