This was our first week at United Methodist Outreach Ministries in Phoenix.
We attended church at Central UMC on Sunday. It is a beautiful church with amazing stained glass windows. The service was a traditional service with parts in Latin and is considered high church.
After church we went to Honey Bears BBQ a local favorite we had heard about. The food was great!
On Monday James our coordinator gave a tour of the facilities. This is the gym used for basketball with a study room on the side. UMOM is a facility to help the homeless in Phoenix. They have several programs in place for the clients for up to a 2 year period to help them. There is also a wing just to help homeless veterans that has received recognition from the White House this year.
Our job for week one was to put up the Christmas decorations. Joyce, Nita, & Dennis were on a hunt in the basement for all our trees, lights; wreaths, ornaments & other Christmas objects.
Bank of America sent over some helpers for us. Dennis, Nita & Louie assembled one of the many trees to be decorated in the lobby.
After the big tree was decorated in the lobby, Nita started putting garland on the stairway to the offices.
Robin decorated a tree for the activities room.
Ann & Joyce hunted through the boxes of Christmas decorations in the activities room.
Nancy found a new friend, an Elf and a Santa Bag!
Nita & Vicki tested lights before putting them on the tree at the front of the campus.
Win was a master light fixer! He worked at getting the reindeer to light & move his head.
Ann decorated a tree by the entrance to the dining hall.
Joyce decorated one of the mini trees to place in the offices. By the end of the of the week the team had decorated 44 trees and placed them around the campus.

Roger cleaned the floor of the activities room on Thursday after we all cleaned up the leftovers from the trees we had decorated.

On Sunday we attended church at Paradise Valley UMC . They had a big choir of about 45 people and a bell choir.
