Week two at UMOM started out with lunch at Souper/Salads after church on Sunday.
Our first project for the week was to sand polyurethane off the bench and stain & refinish it
Dennis & Jim worked at cleaning the carpeting in the admin building. They learned to use a buffer on carpet to scrub it.
Ken & Jim started building a new maintenance room around the water heater in the kitchen storage area, which was a requirement by the fire department inspection.
Linda & Nancy taped off the signs, doors, ceiling & floor so that the client hallways could be spray painted.
The first wall was spray painted with teal for approval by the management staff.
The doors were painted pomegranate red by hand.
The finished carpet in the admin building.
Walls were up in the new storage building & a door ready to be installed.
A step was added to the storage room entrance.
Wednesday afternoon a group of over 80 volunteers from a Home Health care association came in to help us paint doors, cut in around ceilings, doorways, & floors. The whole NOMADS team turned from workers to leaders as each was assigned 12 to 15 people to show them what to do.
Linda made her work easier by towing along her stool with a bungee cord..
After the volunteers left some of the team members cleaned up the paint brushes, rollers, & pans used.
Not wanting to be out done by Linda, Ken was found taking these two stools for a walk back to the campers.
The clean paint brushes were hung out to dry.
Thursday the walls of the new storage area were taped and drywall mud applied by Jim.
Ken started painting the rain gutters on the admin building Thursday afternoon.
Thursday night we went to Organ Stop Pizza. They have an organ the has almost 6000 pipes. The organ rises out of the floor for each performance of 30 to 45 minutes and then at the end of the session it lowers back down.
Organ Stop Pizza serves pizza, salad, pasta, sandwiches, & ice cream.
