NOMADS Lake Junaluska North Carolina Week 1

We closed up the house and left home for our first fall project on Wednesday October 7th and arrived in North Carolina on Thursday the 8th at Lake Junaluska Campground.  We are about 3000 feet above sea level and the colors are just starting. With the cooler weather here late this week the colors should be turning even quicker. Many have told us that we will see some great color here over the next couple of weeks.

We arrived in North Carolina on the 8th.

Arriving at the camp in the early afternoon.

Checking into their campground and getting set up we kicked back for a few days before we start to work.

The team got together on Sunday evening to learn about our jobs for this week and to meet each other. We have worked with Jim & Vicki, and Ken and Madeline last winter in Arizona. This is our first time to work with Dave and New NOMAD Joanne.

Our first assignment was to freshen up the Sunnyside Lodge as they are expecting a full house this weekend.

Ken started by cleaning the outside of the window frames.

Joanne worked on cleaning the windows.

Dennis was after cobwebs around the walkways of the buildings.

Dave also worked on cleaning up cobwebs in the handrails.

Jim wiped down the doorways in the bathrooms.

Vicki helped clean up the annuals in the landscaping for the grounds.

Nancy also worked on cleaning up the landscaping around the buildings.

This is a pile of the plants they pulled up for disposal.

On Wednesday we started freshening up the Mountain View lodge.

Madeline helped by cleaning the screens before we reinstalled them.

Nancy vacuumed the floors.

Dave, Dennis and Ken worked on opening the walls in the campground apartments to repair the water damage Thursday afternoon.

This is the view off the Mountain View Lodge looking across the lake towards the campground.

Outside of the welcome center at the camp is the Biblical Garden they have planted.

This is inspiration point and the view across the lake. There is a 3.8 mile paved walkway around the lake that we walked on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday October 17th, we were given tickets to the concert by the Lake Junaluska Singers at the Stuart Auditorium.

We were also asked to take tickets and pass out programs for the hour before the concert.

We enjoyed a great evening listening to these young people sing a wide array of songs for almost 2 hours.
