ECHO - N Fort Myers Florida January 7 - 13 week 1

With the holidays and a trip back to Michigan, now behind us it was time to start our 1st project in 2017 in N Fort Myers Florida. Even though we are in south Florida some colder weather still came down here, but it was still very nice as by the end of the week the temperatures were up into the 80's.

This year the team is staying at Riverside camp about 1/2 hour east of our project. With all units arriving by Saturday afternoon.

We held our team meeting on Sunday afternoon at the camp and discussed the projects that are being given to us by ECHO (Educational Concerns For Hunger Organization).
.

Monday morning we arrived at ECHO and joined with them for the devotional time they have every Monday for the staff and interns.

After the morning devotion we were then given a tour of the farm area.

Jack spent his time in the shop working on a cabinet project.

One of the projects is to restain the gazebo in the retail area. Sandi started by scraping the wood.

Another project was to repair the shade cloth structure in the retail area. Sandi, Bev and David worked to take down the old boards.

Dave, Sandi and Bev had to dig out the heads of the lag bolts to get the impact on them.

Don  and George dug the holes for posts that we have to put up for the new rabbit barn as they lost the old barn last spring.

Arlene and Pat remove the wallpaper in one of the bathrooms in the administration building. The plan is to texture the wall and then repaint. By the end of the week the primer was on the walls.

Sandi and Bev rolled up the shade screen as it was being removed.

Nancy worked at cleaning the floor of the gazebo.

Sally started the staining of the gazebo with the first of several coats of stain.

Arlene scraped paint on the lanai at the interns housing.

Pat also helped to scrape the lanai before the painting started.

Dave and Chuck worked on removing the 2nd floor decking at the A Frame house.

Dennis and George prepared to mix the cement for the post on the new rabbit building.

Nancy put stain on the deck of the gazebo.

Chuck used a blower to clean the roof of the porch before they started to rebuild the 2nd floor deck.

Pat helped with putting a coat of stain on the gazebo.

Bev and Sandy cleaned the rotted wood out of the center of the posts, We then filled and capped the posts to help preserve them.

David, Dennis and Don put the first 2 X 6 back up to start rebuilding the shade cover structure.

Dave was helping to get the lumber ready to start rebuilding the A Frame deck.

On Thursday morning Chuck and Sally shared the Parable of the Bubble. We all got to have some fun blowing bubbles.

On Friday morning several of the members of the team were given a tour of Riverside Camp where we are staying.

Then in the afternoon Don got out his guitar and we joined in for a sing-a-long near our campers.
