This was our first week in Hattisburg, Mississippi. We had a great team of experienced NOMADS to work with. The project here is to help in the recovery from the F4 tornado that hit this area on January 21, 2017 at 3:00am. 1100 homes were damaged and 5 lives were lost. We have had the opportunity to listen to the stories from the home owners that went through this.
Oak Grove UMC is where we are parked. They are a great church that invites us to their Wednesday night dinners, & Sunday school classes.
We held our get acquainted meeting in the pavilion behind the RV sites on Sunday evening.
One of our jobs was finishing the siding on the Edwards street house.
At the Roby street house Sue and Gary cut the laminate boards the team was installing
Dennis, Bob, John, Linda and Nancy also painted & installed doors inside & out for the Roby street house.
We presented a bible to one of the home owners where the Nomads are done working.
John and Bob started another house which needed ceilings repaired on Gulfport street.
Kitty and Avis teamed up on the Laminate Flooring for the Roby Street house and were able to get it finished being installed on Thursday.
Blinds arrived at Roby street and were put up in the windows by Sue
NOMADS need to be creative! Linda & Nancy invented "helping hands" to hold up new drywall for the ceiling repair.
This is our team. Dennis & Nancy (leaders), Sue, Gary & Avis, Linda & Bob, & John & Kitty.
We worked on patching and repairing the ceiling in the hallway on the Gulfport house.
The kitchen ceiling needed to be scraped so we could apply Kilz to it. The water had caused the texture to come loose.
We found a new kitten for John & Kitty at the house we were working at. He really liked John but Kitty would not approve of him bringing it home.
The week ended with the church inviting us to an outdoor movie. It was a double feature. It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown & It's Magic Charlie Brown.
