Odem Texas Hurricane Harvey Rebuild Nov 3 - 9, 2018

This was our first week in Odem, Texas, we had daily temperatures in the upper 80's with a heat index near 100 every day. The team is working on two houses.  One is in Rockport & the other is in Aransas Pass these were two of the harder hit communities in Texas from Hurricane Harvey last year and still have a lot of rebuilding to get completed.

We went to the Botanical Gardens.  Sara was standing in front of some of the plants. 

Jerry was taking pictures of the butterflies on the flowers green house. 

Of course there was not just flowers & plants there.  This guy posed for his picture.

Several birds were in cages.  Some were talking & others were singing.

There were flowers of all types.

We attended church and Sundy School at Odem UMC. They have beautiful stain glass windows in the sanctuary.

We had a potluck with the minister & his wife for our get acquainted meeting on Sunday evening. We have worked with everyone on this team at least one other time.

The house in Rockport needed a little texturing on some of the walls. Randy used spray texture in the can on it.

There was drywall, mudding, & sanding to be done.  Mary got busy with that.

Dennis & Jerry tried to find the studs in the walls to mount cabinets.  They were not 16 or 24 someplace in between. 

Once studs were found the cabinets could be installed.

Nancy, Mary & Randy all helped paint the doors.

Dennis & Randy worked at installing the plumbing in the bathroom.

We all helped cut, glue, & install the counter top in the kitchen.

Nancy & Mary repainted the kitchen & living room because the wrong paint had been put on by the group of volunteers before us.

Mary & Nancy scraped, scrubbed, & cleaned the wood floors in two of the bedrooms.

Dennis & Randy put the freshly painted doors back in place.

The kitchen cabinets turned out great but we still have a bit more work to do on them.

Carolyn sanded the floors at the house in Aransas Pass to get the pocket door to fit.

John & Kitty installed the flooring.

Gene sprayed texture in the rooms.

Gene installed the base trim.

John hooked up the sink plumbing.

Jerry installed the bathroom door framing.

Carolyn & Gene put together the ceiling fans before installing them.
