This was our 6th week in Odem Texas. We completed one house this week and put the whole team working on the house on Copano Cove Road in Rockport. The weather turned cool at the end of the week and we had severe wind warnings on Thursday and Friday. The wind gusts were over 50 mph and the NOMADS flag blew away over night at the RV parking area. We said our Good Bye to Kevin and Lora as they left this week. Jerry also left the team this week to go renew his plates and drivers liscense before he returns to Texas for his January project.
Our team for this week was (back row) Jerry, Gary, Dennis, Kevin, Sam, (front row) Sue, Avis, Nancy, & Lora.
On Monday Sue, Gary, & Avis did the finishing touches at the house in Aransas Pass. Sue finished the laundry room by reinstalling the shelves.
Dennis presented the bible and a poinsettia to the home owner in Aransas Pass on Monday. The homeowner was a Vietnam veteran that was very grateful for the work that NOMADS completed at his home.
At Copano Cove there was lots of drywall to do done. Kevin & Jerry measured the cut out for the ceiling light.
Dennis cut and installed insulation for the kitchen ceiling.
Dennis put in studding in the old windows to the porch.
It didn't take long for everyone to learn how to use the drywall lift. Kevin used it to place the drywall on the ceiling.
Sue started to take out the numerous screws & nails in the ceiling of the third bedroom. Nancy removed the ones on the wall.
Lora cut the drywall for the kitchen cabinet edges.
Dennis, Gary, & Sue put drywall on the wall to the porch.
The church had a chili supper for the NOMADS and had Ricardo presented a program to us about Texas history including guns & weapons from the past. He also told us about the playing card in the brim of his hat. It was used to identify the Mexicans fighting for Texas during the revolution for Texas freedom from Mexico.
He brought some of his collection of rifles, muzzle loaders, pistols, holsters, spurs, & axes.
He told us he had "rattlers" in his big box. Baby ones that was! The team let Dennis go play with the "Baby rattlers".
He also had baby "moccasins", for Dennis to pull out of the box.
Avis installed corner bead. She learned to use the installing tool which makes the job easier.
We all spent half a day resetting screws from previous groups of volunteers. Sue was able to start filling in the holes in the drywall gaps.
The door frame was put in by the homeowner's brother. Dennis installed the doors & Sam & Jerry measured, cut, & installed the drywall around the door.
Kevin & Laura were leaving on Wednesday, so we all went to dinner at the Butter Churn in Sinton on the way home from the project. It's a big buffet with special main dishes each night.
Avis helped Jerry install a piece of drywall on a bedroom wall. All of the rooms have a wall or two that have a angle.
Dennis cut & put up the insulation in the third bedroom.
By the end of Thursday, the bathroom drywall was up.
The kitchen & living room drywall was up & the majority of it had been mudded.
The third bedroom had all the insulation done. Most of the ceiling had drywall on it & one piece of drywall was on the wall.
