With the long weekend from Thanksgiving behind us the team got ready to start a new week. The weather on Sunday was great and then cooled down during the week for great working weather and highs in the 60's and climbing to 70 by the end of the week. This week proved to be a very physical work week for the team as everyone on the team was involved in drywall work at 2 different project sites. Both of our sites will probably finish this next.
On Sunday, Sue, Avis, Nancy, & Gary went to Corpus Christi to help serve food to the homeless after church.
Avis helped serve food while Sue, Gary, & Nancy helped with boxing & bagging of the meals.
Pastor Cliff & his wife Vickie brought books for the homeless to take to read. This is a very popular ministry that the Odem church is doing as the congregation brings books in for this and once a month they set up the table to share the books.
We had a potluck for our Sunday night meeting. We welcomed Kevin & Laura to our team, this is their second project and drove in ahead of the snow storm that was hitting Kansas when they took off from home on Saturday.
This was our team for this week. (L to R sitting) Nancy, Sue, Sara, Avis, Laura, (Standing) Dennis, Jerry, Gary & Kevin.
At the new house in Rockport there was a lot of work to be done in the garage. Laura drove in some of the screws in the drywall. The previous volunteers who had hung this drywall did not understand the process of setting the screws, over half of the screws had to be reset.
Sara had lots of mudding to do, as we started on this area.
Kevin & Dennis built the frame for the attic ladder.
They installed the ladder.
Drywall was put around the opening to close up the ceiling.
Next project was the garage doors. Some parts were there & instructions had to be read to do the job. We found most of the parts in just a pile in the corner of the garage.
Dennis had to fix the laminate flooring in the house that was moving because it was not properly installed. Along the kitchen cabinet it was to tight to the cabinet and had to be trimmed to take out a buckle.
The door to the back yard needed trim put around it.
Jerry & Kevin were able to open the first garage door on Wednesday after many struggles, but they both learned a new skill they hope to not need again soon.
Then there was a lot of tweaking to be done to get the doors to operate correctly.
For the second door, Jerry and Dennis had to find a stud to install the brace on the ceiling.
Then the spring was hooked up to finish the project. Now the homeowner has two opening garage doors.
At the house in Aransas Pass, Jerry & Sue worked on demolition of the back room and kitchen. Sue hauled out the tear out in a wheel barrow to the dumpster.
Insulation was put in the back room ceiling.
Whataburger! Sue, Avis, & Gary's favorite stop on the way back to the campers for their senior drink. They claim that their vehicles do not know how to drive by without stopping.
Avis worked on getting a few tight spot screws in the drywall installation.
Drywall was put up on the back room.
The kitchen ceiling drywall was put up.
Sue & Gary used the banjo to help them tape & mud the ceiling. This was Sue's first time getting a lot of experience in mudding, with training from Gary that was great. Gary told the rest of the team that Sue is now a "mudder".
A great job well done!
Avis started putting the trim back in place.
Thursday night we went to Railroad Seafood Restaurant in Odem for a good bye meal for Sara as she is leaving to go home for the Christmas Holiday.
On Friday evening Jerry, Gary, Sue and Sara gathered in the fellowship hall for a game of cards.
