ECHO - N Fort Myers Florida January 5 - 11 week 1, 2019

This was our first week working at ECHO in North Fort Myers, Florida. We have a team of 12 people.  There are several projects on the list at ECHO.  We started some of them this week.

On Friday night the NOMADS that were here at our campground went to the fish fry in Buckingham where we met up with Gary & Jeanie & Carol Lee & Tom.

We went to church in LaBelle & after church on Sunday we went to Log Cabin BBQ.

On Monday we joined ECHO for devotions. There was a TAD group in as well as ECHO volunteers & staff including the CEO & CFO.

ECHO is a global farm & research center that trains people to go to third world countries & teach them how to grow food.

We had a tour of ECHO. Russ showed us where ECHO has research farms throughout the world.

We saw several different ways of growing plants throughout the farm.

Our first project was turning the garage of the duplex into a storage room.

After the garage door was removed, Gary, Rob & Dennis started making plans on how to install a wall.

Nancy & Janie removed the last of the garage door system from the ceiling.

Rob built a frame where the old entrance door to the garage was.

He also removed some of the old wiring & outlets.

Gary & Pat built a new wall to put in place where the old garage door was.

Dennis & Rob talked about how & where wires needed to be moved in the ceiling.

Dennis reconnected the wires to the circuit box.

By the end of Thursday Pat & Gary attached shelves to the walls for the new closet in the duplex storage room

Another major project was the bridge.  There are two bridges that they would like to have replaced with new Trex decking & stronger supports. Their first job was to remove the lattice from the sides of the bridge.

After the lattice was removed they started on the lattice support boards.

next was removing the decking boards, finding all of the screws was a challenge..

Once everything was removed they would be able to start working on new supports & finally decking.

Since the TAD class was going on NOMADS was asked to send two people each day to the kitchen to work. Pat helped make a starfruit upside down cake.

Janie cut up vegetables.

Carol prepared chicken.

Sally & Ruthie worked on shrimp & chicken.

Another project was the mushroom house.  We were asked to put a door on the end of it.

Janie & Rob removed the old wall & framed it in.

By the end of Thursday the new door was in place. Some final work will be required next week.

We were asked to remove the old boards from the walkway by the retail area & prepare it for cement.

Mike & Ruthie removed the boards, framed the area & leveled it in preparation for the cement.

We were asked to build a lockable room for storage of hurricane repair materials.

Our first job was to clean everything out of the area before removing the old shelves.

Sally, Nancy, Ruthie & Mike had the job of removing all the old nails & save the boards to be reused.

Dennis came up to give direction on how to start the wall. By the end of Thursday we had built one wall frame.

Thursday night we went to Amigos & Beer for dinner.  Its a nice Mexican Restaurant in La Belle.
