This was our first week in Hattiesburg, Mississippi again we are staying at the Oak Grove UMC church as our hosts. The last times we have been here we were working a Disaster Recovery Project, This year it is a regular 3 week project as the work is winding down in the recovery, but we are still working in the community for the recovery. This week we worked on a house that had a tree fall on it during the Tornado on January 21, 2017
Our team consists of Bill & Barb, Dennis & Nancy, & Steve & Glenita. We were supposed to have a couple of other members but they both had to cancel for this project.
Our first job was to clear items out of the house. Barb & Glenita used a shopping cart to haul out items from the house.
One of our major projects was replacing the window in the dining room. Barb & Bill removed the old window.
Steve removed the wall in the bathroom so the plumber could fix the plumbing.
Dennis removed the old window in the dining room.
Nancy worked on removing the old tape from the storm windows.
Glenita mudded the drywall patches on the living room ceiling.
We took our breaks on the side of the street by an empty lot.
Dennis started to re-glaze the windows but it was just a bit too cold.
Bill measured the window sill for the replacement windows.
Bill & Steve placed the underlayment of luan for the new floor in the Den.
Glenita scraped the old glazing & paint off the windows using a heat gun to make removing it easier.
Barb put new glazing on the windows.
Nancy rolled the sealer on the Luan to help the new flooring stick better.
Bill sat on the floor putting in the new tile.
Dennis replaced the glass on the attic window.
Bill & Steve did a great job on installing the new floor.
Barb stuck to her job of putting glaze on windows & on herself as well.
On Thursday afternoon the new kitchen cabinets showed up! We will install them next week & paint them.
The counter tops also came in.
Barb got a lesson in how to install top cabinets using a ledger board.
Steve & Bill fixed the gate for the homeowner.
Glenita & Barb painted the walls of the kitchen & dining room.
Thursday night we went to Leatha's Barbecue.
The food was good & lots of it! We all had more than we could eat.
Leatha's is a small hometown bar-b-q in west Hattiesburg.
