This was our first week at Riverside Camp & Retreat Center in LaBelle Florida. It was their first project in over 10 years. There are several items on their list of jobs for us to do. We were able to get a great start on some of them.
On Saturday night we had a popcorn & movie night. We watched "Seven Days in Utopia."
Our first project was to decide how we would add a screened in porch to the four cabins. The cabin roofs were about 6 feet high in front of the cabins so we had to come up with a plan on how to raise the roofs for the porch areas.
The supplies were at the camping area and needed to be moved to build the porches for each of the four cabins.
While the supplies were being moved, Nancy, Susan, Sue, Sandy & Sally started to pull down the vines on the trees near the cabins.
Chuck, Dave, Dave, & John removed the screws that held the metal roof in place on the first cabin.
Susan & Sally pulled vines & moved them to the road for pick up.
We also had several palm trees that were covered with vines. Sandy used trimmers to cut the vines.
The outside walls were build for the porch of the first cabin.
Mike drilled the holes for attaching the brackets for holding the walls to the cement landing.
Chuck, & Dennis supported the walls while Mike screwed them in place.
The walls on the first porch were installed. The front of the cabin roof needed to be trimmed so that the porch and roof were high enough to be usable.
After all the walls were up the rafters were attached to the roof. We needed to make a few minor adjustments to the rafter spacing.
Sally's "pride & joy" was being able to clean out this little sitting area in the hopes of making it useful again.
Supports were put on the rafters of the porch in preparation for adding a roof.
Sue cleaned the walls & insides of the cabin.
The windows needed special care in cleaning.
Susan painted the bunk bed top boards with kiltz.
With all the bone in place for the screened in porch, Dennis & Mike with Dave's help started planning the screen door openings.
Sally painted the night stands for the first two cabins.
This is our team Dave, Dave & Sandy, Sally & Chuck, Dennis & Nancy, John & Sue, and Susan & Mike.
We had a potluck and a movie night. We watched the christian movie "War Room."
We went to a fish fry at a nearby church and met up with some other NOMADS.. Mike & Susan, Gene & Barb (NOMADS), Tom & Carol Lee (NOMADS Alumni), & Nancy & Dennis. The food was great & serving sizes were very big.
