This was our third week in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Mike & Susan and Larry & Ginger joined us this week for the project. We are working on two houses. One in Hattiesburg and the other in Petal. We were able to accomplish a lot of the work that needs to be done at both houses.
This was our team for the week. Jean & Larry, Nancy & Dennis (leaders), Sue & John, Susan & Mike, & Ginger & Larry.
After church we went to Movie Star Restaurant for lunch. It is a buffet with a wide assortment of foods.
They had stemmed glasses over the windows which gave a stained glass look to the inside of restaurant when the sun shines through.
The inside and outside is filled with a large selection of vintage signs and many are for sale.
On Sunday afternoon we had our team meeting. Klondike bars and cookies were enjoyed by all.
At the house in Hattiesburg, Ginger continued scraping old paint off the sofit.
Jean continued painting & priming the shutters.
In Petal, Mike worked on finishing the drywall in the 1/2 bathroom off the master bedroom.
In Hattiesburg, Larry patched some of the siding.
Larry kept Ginger supplied with all she needed for scraping off the front peak of the house.
In Petal, John helped prime & paint the hallway.
The home owner requested that we sand his hardwood original floors in the house. The floor sander came in so Dennis tried it out on the bedroom floor. There was adjusting to be done so that the sander took off just what was needed. He made sure everything was working correctly before turning the sander over to John.
The youth of the church where we are parked held a cross auction to raise money for their youth programs. The crosses were donated by members of the church for their silent auction. There was a lot of different types of crosses. There were wooden crosses, metal crosses, cloth crosses, colored pictures of crosses, cross stitched crosses, painted crosses, cross necklaces, stained glass crosses, a cross made out of railroad spikes,& even a box of cross cookies. The auction raised over $3000.
Even the Sunday School children helped raise money by making crosses to sell for a $1 donation.
While the auction was going on, the church served a pancake dinner.
In Petal, everyone worked on sanding the areas where the floor sander couldn't fit in. Nancy made sure to use a breathing mask & ear plugs because of all the noise & dust from sanding.
In Hattiesburg, Larry & Larry used the break to bend metal for the facia on the exterior of the house.
They were pleased with how the newly made pieces fit.
Ginger & Paul (from the church), caulked around the windows.
When all the sanding of the floors in Petal was done, & Nancy finshed washing the floors, Susan & Sue laid down a cover of brown paper to protect & keep clean the bare wood.
We attended the Wednesday night meal at the church. Afterwards one of the members asked if she could take a group picture of us out in the courtyard. The guys stood on the edge of the fountain. The church member said that they did not have a picture of the NOMADS in their wall gallery so we would now be included in the church activities gallery.
In Petal there was outside work to be done also. John & Mike started the tear out.
Dennis started power washing the over hangs.
Dennis also got to play with his saw & sledge hammer destructing a storage shed in the backyard in Hattiesburg.
Larry & Larry started the tearout of the bedroom ceiling. There was water damage on the drywall & they found rotted boards above in the ceiling.
Dennis & Nancy were interviewed for VIM & the Mississippi DR. They were having a conference in the area & wanted to know more about NOMADS & the work we were doing.
Our campground this week consisted of 2 motor homes & 3 fifth wheels.
We ended the week with dinner at the Twisted Skillet. It's a small locally owned restaurant. The owner is a member of the Methodist church here. The food was great.
This was our last group picture for the week.
