On Wednesday we left the Williams/Flagstaff area and went further east to Holbrook, Arizona and stayed at the OK RV park. It rained a little on us for the evening and overnight.
We started off Thursday in the Petrified Forest National Park.
The Rainbow Forest Museum contains lots of information about how the petrified forest came into being.
In the petrified forest we found a cactus blooming.
Petrified wood was found everywhere on the trail.
Mother nature had split whole the trees into logs.
The colors were very vivid.
Some of the tree portions were very large.
The painted desert had layers of colors across the landscape.
The colors went on for miles.
The visitor center for the Painted Desert is part of the Petrified Forest.
On Friday we started our next trip to the Hubbell Trading Post.
The trading post main building is still an active store filled with both items from the past that were traded & with current everyday items like cans of food & bottles of water that you could buy.
The furnishings in the Hubbell House were original from when the Hubbells lived there. The family decided to donate all of the items to the National Park Service to keep the building a current reference.
The kitchen table & dining room pieces were decorated with very detailed wood carvings.
Outside was a huge wood burning stove.
There was one big turkey that lived with the chickens.
There were some wool breed sheep like the kind that were there when it was an active trading post.
The hay loft in the barn was held up with wooden poles.
Canyon de Chelly was our next stop.
The canyons were spectacular.
Ancient ruins were along the cliffs.
Free range cows, sheep & horses roam along the roads.
We stopped at Four Corners U.S.A. where the corners of 4 states meet.
It is the only place in the U.S. that four states meet in a perfect intersection.
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
and New Mexico.
Our stop for the evening was in Colorado.
The mountain views were beautiful.
We stopped for the weekend in the city of Cortez.
