YUMA TO JOSHUA TREE TO QUARTZITE TO LAKE HAVASAU MAR 6 TO MAR 11

We have started our 3 week vacation time.
During the first part of the first week we traveled to Yuma, Joshua Tree National Park, Quartzsite, & the London Bridge in Lake Havasau.

Our first stop was Yuma Territorial Prison.  It's a state historic park that was once a prison.

The cell blocks of the prison.

The next stop was the Quartermaster Depot.  This was home to the quartermaster.

After Yuma we headed to California. We camped at Desert Hot Springs and went to Joshua Tree National Park where we drove several park roads & did some hiking.

The Joshua Trees were just starting to bloom.  They had large bloom pods filled with little flowers coming out of the center.

The ocotillo were also starting to bloom.  This one was about 15 feet high & had small orange red flowers.

Next we traveled to Quartzsite.  We went to the huge outdoor flea markets.

We also went to find out why the camels were on the welcome sign to the city.  it seems they were used as transportation in the desert as an army experiment.

This is the tomb where Hi Jolly the herder & his camel are buried.

We stopped at the London Bridge in Lake Havasau where we walked across the bridge. It is indeed a wonder how they moved the pieces from London to Arizona and then put it back together.

The area around the bridge has a visitor center & lots of small stores.
